Learning Designer

The SAMR model is the framework that best aligns with my vision as an ITC. I like how it encourages the user to dig deeper than merely Substituting or Augmenting a lesson to make it digital. The use of technology provides many opportunities for educators to allow for creative choice for students, as well as encouraging participation and heightened engagement.

Creativity

Students create higher quality work when they are interested in the topic. My students each chose a person of interest from the Civil War and made an infographic on Wixie.

Communication

I snipped pictures of the Civil War infographics to showcase in our WOW Work Padlet. The kids love seeing their work on display - and adding their own flair to our community page.

Critical Thinking

This elapsed time file was a SmartBoard Notebook file that I exported as a PDF and then imported into Nearpod. I converted each slide into a Draw-It slide to incorporate student participation into the lesson. This provided an opportunity for immediate feedback and for me to reteach misconceptions. I embedded the lesson as an external tool on Canvas to make it even easier for my students to access quickly. I love how beneficial this site is to use while concurrently teaching, but I enjoy using it when everyone is in-person, too.

Another activity my students enjoyed was a "Who Am I?" game on FlipGrid regarding a Civil War person of interest. It was a valuable learning experience for the students to determine which hints were most needed, and to say it all in 1 minute or less!

Accessible and Equitable

Many websites now offer the ability to record audio support and to include visual supports. My team found these resources to be invaluable this year as we planned for below, on, and above-level students. Whenever there was a possibility of a resource being needed asynchronously, we ensured equal access by recording our voices onto the page - especially if Immersive Reader would be unavailable.

We found Quizlet to be a great resource for teaching and practicing key words and definitions in content areas. Not only is there a bank of editable lessons created by other educators, but there is the option of adding images to every part!

Collaboration

Once we worked out how quietly we needed to talk to our Zoomies so that we wouldn't disrupt each other, the Roomies had a great time working with their virtual partners on this Fraction Jeopardy game!

Citizenship

Copy/Paste is so easy to do! Plagiarism has been a serious discussion with our students this year. We have completed a few research projects and papers. Each time, the students have cited their work (see page 10 of this slides show).
